Example AI-Assisted Workflow

Storiis AI can help you explore possibilities, develop scenes and review a Plan. It works best as a thoughtful collaborator with access to your chosen story context—not as a slot machine that dispenses finished novels when shaken.
This workflow follows the same basic arc as Example Workflow, but introduces AI at the points where it is most useful.
AI features use credits and show an estimate before a request. Nothing in this workflow is required, and you can hide all AI controls in System Settings. For a feature-by-feature reference, see AI Tools.
1. Give AI a Useful Foundation
Before brainstorming, add whatever you already know in Story:
- Synopsis or premise
- Dramatic question
- Genre and tone
- Outline fragments
- Key cast
- Important constraints or material to avoid
AI can work from a small amount of context, but it cannot respect a rule you have never recorded. A useful constraint is often more valuable than another page of vague possibility.
2. Brainstorm the Story
Use the brainstorming controls in Story to explore the overview or outline. Describe what you want help with and choose the relevant context.
Review the response before applying anything. Keep the ideas that sharpen your intent, revise those that are close and discard those that belong to the strangely confident novel the assistant has decided to write instead.
Applied changes become editable Story content.
3. Develop the Cast
Use character brainstorming to propose roles your premise may need. Add only characters with a clear dramatic function, then develop them in Characters.
You can also generate a visual reference for a character. Treat the image as inspiration and revise the written profile when visual details become canonical.
For central characters, establish motivations, starting and ending states and journey beats before generating a complete scene plan.
4. Draft Storylines
Create the main storyline in the Storylines panel. Help me with this can draft its name, dramatic question, backstory and goal from your Story and existing threads.
The result enters the ordinary creation flow. Edit it, choose a template or custom structure and create only the beats that serve your story.

5. Brainstorm All Scenes
From Plan → Scenes, choose Brainstorm All Scenes. Select the scope and constraints for the proposed Plan, then review the estimated credit use before running it.
The result is a proposal, not an automatic replacement for your work. Review the cards for:
- Repetition
- Missing causal steps
- Characters acting outside their established motivations
- Storylines that vanish or multiply without cause
- Beats that sound plausible but do not answer your dramatic question
Apply the scenes you want, then edit them like any other Plan material.
6. Develop Important Scenes Individually
Use Add Scene with AI when you know where a scene belongs but need help developing its function, events, cast, timing or connections.
The assistant can use surrounding scenes and your existing Story, characters, locations and storylines as context. Review each section in the Scene Wizard before saving.
AI is especially useful for exploring alternatives: three ways a confrontation could turn, several plausible complications or a quieter scene that still advances the same beat.
7. Check the Human Logic
Now perform the checks that generation cannot do on your behalf:
- Open Timeline and verify chronology.
- Review Cards for structure and point-of-view balance.
- Confirm every central character choice fits the profile and journey.
- Connect canonical exposition to the scenes that reveal it.
- Read Scene Flow in Summary.
You remain the source of truth for intention. AI can identify a pattern; only you know whether that pattern is a problem.
8. Run Analysis
Once the Plan has enough substance, open Analysis. Run all reports at a major milestone or choose a focused lens for the issue you are solving.
Review findings rather than chasing a perfect health score. Ignore findings that describe intentional choices, and investigate the scenes behind those that expose real confusion.
9. Use AI Plan Review
Open AI Plan Review to discuss the current structure and relevant analysis findings. Ask focused questions such as:
- Where does the protagonist stop driving events?
- Which setup-and-payoff finding affects the central mystery?
- How could I shorten the middle without losing the relationship thread?
- Which two scenes appear to perform the same function?
Plan Review can prepare concrete revisions. Inspect the proposed changes before applying them. Accepted changes are grouped so you can undo them if the story was better before everyone became so helpful.
10. Generate a Reading Summary
In Plan → Summary, generate an AI Summary when you want a continuous prose account of the Plan. Read it for coherence and emphasis: what does the summary treat as important, and does that match your intention?
Update it after substantial Plan changes. Storiis marks an AI Summary when it is older than the current Plan.
11. Continue in Another AI Tool, If Useful
Cloud AI Access can make selected story documents available to compatible outside AI tools through a private, read-only connection. Add the story, sync it, then use the supplied connection details in your chosen tool.
The outside assistant can read the synced story and file suggestions for your review. Supported suggestions can be accepted as undoable Plan changes; other suggestions can be incorporated manually and marked handled. It cannot silently rewrite the local Plan. Sync after resolving suggestions so the outside assistant sees the updated version. See Keeping the Plan Aligned with AI Suggestions for the complete loop. The strongest AI-assisted Plan is not the one with the most generated material. It is the one in which every retained idea has survived contact with your taste.
