About Storiis
Does Storiis Include a Writing Module?
No. Instead of rebuilding the same word processor that so many writing applications have already built—and rebuilt, and rebuilt once more with a slightly rounder toolbar—Storiis focuses on planning.
When you are ready to write, keep the Plan beside your preferred writing environment or export it to Scrivener, Word, Google Docs or another supported format. You can also export customized scene grids to Excel, Google Sheets or CSV.

Do I Have to Complete Every Field?
Absolutely not. Storiis is a planning system, not a tax form.
Fill in the information that helps you make decisions. Some writers will build full character dossiers and detailed world rules before creating a scene. Others will add only a synopsis, a main storyline and enough scenes to find their way forward. Both approaches are valid.
Do I Have to Follow the Example Workflow?
No. Example Workflow demonstrates how the sections can work together, but it is not a required order. Start wherever your story has energy and build outward from there.
Plans and Documents
What Is the Difference Between a Storyline, a Story Beat and a Scene?
A storyline is a continuing dramatic thread, such as the main conflict, a relationship arc or a subplot.
A story beat is a meaningful development within that storyline.
A scene is a unit of the story as presented to the reader or audience. One scene can advance several storylines by containing a beat from each.
What Is the Difference Between Timing and the Timeline?
Timing belongs to a scene. It describes when that scene happens relative to the start of the story or another scene, and optionally how long it lasts.
The Timeline is the visual view in the Plan that resolves those timing relationships and lays scenes out according to when they occur inside the story world.

Can My Scenes Be Grouped into Chapters Instead of Sequences?
Yes. In the Scenes menu, open Group Scenes by and choose Chapters. The app updates the relevant labels throughout the Plan and in exports.
Does Narrative Order Have to Match Chronological Order?
No. The Scenes view keeps scenes in the order the audience experiences them. Timing and the Timeline show when those scenes happen in the story world. A flashback can therefore appear halfway through the narrative while sitting years earlier on the Timeline.
Saving and Backups
Does Storiis Save My Work Automatically?
Your Storiis story is a document. Save it with Command–S, and configure backups separately under Settings → Backups.
Backups can run when a document opens, closes, is manually saved or at a chosen interval. See Backups for setup and restoration instructions.
Where Are Backups Stored?
By default, they are stored inside Storiis’ app-data folder. You can choose a folder you control under Settings → Backups, which is recommended for stronger protection.
AI Features
What Can Storiis AI Help Me Do?
Storiis includes focused tools for developing a story or outline, brainstorming characters and worldbuilding, drafting storylines and scenes, reviewing a Plan, scoring Story Curves, running structural Analysis, generating a prose summary and creating reference images.

Do I Need AI to Use Storiis?
No. The planning, reference, character, location, backup and export tools can be used manually.
To remove AI controls entirely, turn on Settings → General → Hide AI features.
What Happens to My Existing Work When I Accept AI Output?
AI workflows include a review step before material is applied. Where a workflow can replace or add substantial content, Storiis shows what it produced and lets you choose what to keep.
Review the result as you would review a collaborator’s suggestion. AI-generated material is a draft, not an edict carried down from a glowing mountaintop.
What Story Information Is Sent to the AI?
Only the context needed for the AI feature you run. Depending on the action, that can include your Story overview, outline, Plan, characters, locations, worldbuilding and writing guidance.

Why Is an AI Button Disabled?
Common reasons include:
- AI features are hidden under Settings.
- The account does not currently have an AI allowance or available credits.
- The feature needs more story context—for example, character brainstorming works best after the Story overview exists.
- The current Plan does not yet contain enough scenes or character appearances for that analysis.
Are Credits Charged for a Failed Request?
No. If a request cannot begin because the balance is too low, or if generation fails or is cancelled, no credits are charged.
Is Cloud AI Access the Same as Storiis AI?
No. Storiis AI generates material inside the app and uses credits. Cloud AI Access gives an outside AI tool read-only access to selected stories through MCP. It has separate document slots and does not consume Storiis AI credits.
Exports
Does an Export Stay Synchronized with My Plan?
Most exports are snapshots. Changes made in Storiis afterward require a new export.
Google Sheets can update the sheet previously linked to that story through the export workflow. It is still an intentional export, not constant live synchronization.
Will Exporting to Scrivener Change an Existing Project?
No. Storiis creates a new Scrivener project organized by act or by sequence or chapter. It does not overwrite an existing Scrivener project.
Troubleshooting
Why Can’t I See the Analysis Section?
Hide AI features is probably enabled under Settings → General. Analysis is entirely AI-driven, so the section is removed while that setting is active.
Why Does an Analysis Say It Is Out of Date?
The Plan has changed since the report was generated. Run that report again—or choose Update all reports from Story Health—to analyze the current scenes.
Why Is a Character or Location Missing from a Scene?
Open the scene in the Scene Wizard or inspector and connect the existing item there. Avoid creating a duplicate merely to make it appear; edits to the shared character or location will then remain consistent across the Plan.
Why Is My Outside AI Using Old Story Information?
Cloud AI Access uses the last uploaded copy. Open the story and select its cloud toolbar control to sync the latest changes.
