Credits & Usage

Updated

Storiis uses credits for AI work performed through Storiis AI. Credits turn several kinds of underlying AI usage—text generation, analysis and images—into one understandable balance.

For a description of every AI feature and when to use it, see AI Tools.

You never need credits to use the manual planning tools. Story, Reference Library, Plan, Characters, Locations, backups and exports remain useful without asking a machine to contribute a single adjective.

Where to See Your Credits

Open Settings → Credits & Usage. The pane shows the balances available to your account, recent AI-request activity and any Brainstorm Pack credits.

Use the refresh control if you have just changed plans or purchased a pack and the new balance has not appeared yet.

How Credits Are Used

Before most AI actions, Storiis shows an estimated credit cost. The estimate helps you decide whether to proceed, but the server measures the actual completed work.

If there are not enough credits, the request is stopped before generation begins and no credits are charged. Failed or cancelled generations do not consume credits.

More ambitious requests generally use more credits. Generating an entire scene plan, for example, needs more context and output than generating a single reference image. Where the app offers scope or length choices, it shows an estimate before the final generation begins.

Monthly AI Credits

Plans with an AI allowance provide a new set of credits for each billing period. Settings → Credits & Usage shows how many remain and when the allowance resets.

Standard-plan allowance does not carry forward. Pro can bank unused allowance up to the cap shown in Settings, and the pane displays the oldest expiration date when banked credits are present.

The in-app Subscription pane is the source of truth for the allowance currently included with each plan.

Welcome Credits

An eligible subscriber receives a one-time welcome-credit bonus when the first paid subscription period begins.

During an eligible free trial, the bonus is shown as locked. It becomes available only when the trial converts to a paid subscription. Cancelling before that conversion does not unlock it.

Brainstorm Packs

Brainstorm Packs are one-time credit purchases. Their credits remain available while the account is active and are used after any monthly allowance.

You can buy a pack under Settings → Credits & Usage. The currently available pack options appear there.

Brainstorm Packs are useful when you want occasional AI assistance without changing plans, or when a particularly enthusiastic planning session outlives the month’s included allowance.

Using Credits Wisely

Credits are best spent on questions with enough context to produce a useful answer.

  • Fill in the Story overview before brainstorming a full cast or scene plan.
  • Develop your key characters and storylines before running a Plan Review.
  • Run individual Analysis reports when you are investigating one problem; use Run all when you need the complete Story Health picture.
  • Review AI output before accepting it. Regenerating the same vague request several times is usually less effective than improving the premise or adding one good constraint.
  • When generating images, complete the descriptive fields first so the prompt has something specific to work with.

The goal is not to spend as few credits as humanly possible. The goal is to avoid paying an AI to rediscover information you could have given it in the first place.

When Credits Run Out

If your balance cannot cover an AI action, Storiis explains the shortfall and offers a route to add a Brainstorm Pack or change plans. Manual features continue to work normally.

Monthly credits become available again at the next allowance reset. Brainstorm Pack credits remain until used while the account stays active.

Cloud AI Access Is Separate

Cloud AI Access does not use Storiis AI credits. It gives an outside AI tool read-only access to selected story plans through a private MCP connection. Any model usage in that outside tool is governed by your relationship with that tool.

Cloud AI Access has its own document-slot subscription and is managed separately under Settings.

Data and Privacy

When you use an AI feature inside Storiis, the story information needed for that request is sent to the AI provider. This may include information from your synopsis, outline, scenes, characters, locations, worldbuilding or writing guidance, depending on the feature you chose.

Storiis shows this disclosure in the Credits & Usage pane and links to the current privacy policy. If you prefer not to use AI features, turn on Settings → General → Hide AI features to remove their controls from the app.
